3-4 Room
The 3-4 Year’s Room
Welcome to our 3–4 Year’s Room — a vibrant, stimulating and nurturing environment where children’s curiosity, confidence and independence begin to flourish. At this stage, children are full of imagination, eager to communicate their ideas and ready to explore new challenges.
Our room is designed to support children as they grow into confident, independent learners, while keeping play, discovery and joy at the heart of every experience. Through meaningful interactions, exciting learning opportunities and a caring environment, we help children build the foundations they need for their next stage of learning.
Our room is also fully inclusive, welcoming children of all abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Every child is valued as an individual, and our staff take time to understand each child’s needs, interests and strengths. With patience, kindness and genuine care, we support all children to feel safe, included and able to thrive.
We encourage children to show kindness, empathy and respect towards one another, helping to build a warm and supportive community within the room.

Areas of Learning
Children’s development is supported through experiences that follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) areas of learning.
Communication and Language
Language development is supported through rich conversations, storytelling, singing, role play and group discussions. These experiences help children expand their vocabulary, express their ideas and feelings, and develop confidence when communicating with others.
Early Literacy
Children are encouraged to develop a love of books and stories. Through activities such as mark making, name recognition, phonics-style games and shared reading, children begin to develop the early skills that support reading and writing.
Early Maths
Children explore early mathematical ideas through counting games, sorting objects, recognising patterns, exploring shapes and solving simple problems. These playful experiences help children develop logical thinking and curiosity about numbers.
Physical Development
Physical activity is an important part of children’s health, confidence and wellbeing.
Children develop gross motor skills through running, climbing, balancing, jumping, riding bikes and participating in outdoor games. These experiences strengthen their muscles, coordination and balance.
Children also develop fine motor skills through activities such as drawing, painting, cutting, threading beads, building with small construction materials and using tools during creative play. These activities help strengthen the small muscles in their hands, which are essential for writing and self-care skills.
Through everyday routines, children are also supported to become more independent in self-care, such as washing hands, putting on coats, managing belongings and using the toilet.
Social and Emotional Development
Children learn how to build friendships, share, take turns and understand their feelings. Staff gently support children in learning how to cooperate with others, solve small conflicts and develop confidence in social situations.
Creative Expression
Creativity is encouraged through art, music, dance, imaginative play and open-ended materials. These experiences allow children to express their ideas, explore their imagination and develop confidence in their own creativity.
In the 3–4 Year’s Room, every day is filled with opportunities for discovery, friendship and learning. Through play, exploration and supportive guidance, we help children grow into curious, confident and independent learners who feel happy, safe and valued.
