Outings

At Willow Nursery, we believe some of the best learning happens when children step outside and explore the world around them. Outings are a fun and exciting part of nursery life, giving children the opportunity to discover their local community, experience new environments, and build confidence through real-life experiences.

Our regular outings may include trips to local parks, nature walks, visits to the library, and exploring places of interest within the community. These adventures allow children to observe nature, ask questions, and learn about the world around them in a meaningful and hands-on way. Along the way, children develop important life skills such as independence, curiosity, teamwork, and an understanding of how to stay safe outside the nursery environment.

Being out and about also supports children’s physical development, communication skills, and social confidence. Children enjoy walking together as a group, talking about what they see, and learning how to follow simple safety rules while exploring their surroundings. These experiences often spark new interests and ideas that we continue to explore back at nursery.

The safety and wellbeing of our children is always our highest priority. All outings are carefully planned in advance and thorough risk assessments are carried out to ensure the environment is safe and suitable for the children. Our experienced staff supervise children closely at all times, and we maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios while following clear safety procedures to make sure every child is supported throughout the outing.

To allow children to take part in our local outings, parents provide written permission during their child’s induction. We kindly ask parents to support us by ensuring their child:

  • Comes to nursery dressed appropriately for the weather, including suitable footwear
  • Has any seasonal items such as coats, hats, or sun protection
  • Ensures staff are aware of any medical needs or important information that may affect their child while out

At Willow Nursery, we truly value our partnership with parents and carers. We love welcoming parents who would like to volunteer and join us on outings where possible. It’s a wonderful opportunity for families to share in their child’s learning, enjoy special moments together, and strengthen the connection between home and nursery.

Throughout the year, we may also organise bigger and more exciting trips, such as end-of-year outings to the zoo, museums, or other special places. These trips are wonderful celebrations for the children and often become lasting memories. Because they require more planning, we make sure to inform parents well in advance so families have plenty of time to prepare. These special outings are usually parent-led experiences, where families are invited to attend and enjoy the day alongside their children.

At Willow Nursery, outings are more than just trips—they are adventures filled with discovery, laughter, and learning, helping children build confidence, curiosity, and a strong sense of belonging within their community. 🌿🚌✨
